Weight
The Osprey 65L AG backpack comes in 3 different sizes. The smallest size weighs only 4 pounds 6 ounces, and the largest size is about 14 ounces heavier than the smallest. No matter which size fits your size, it’s still a very light pack.
Comfort/Fit
This pack is unbelievably comfortable, and it really feels like all the weight is floating above your back. It is very adjustable, and possible to get the perfect fit. There are great features in the design of this backpack that make it great for carrying heavy loads.
Anti-Gravity Suspension
- The mesh AG suspension is an excellent design that works very well to distribute the load and keep your hips doing the carrying.
- The suspension can be adjusted to sit lower or higher on your hips.
- The small size fits a 16 – 19 inch torso, the medium size fits an 18 – 21 inch torso, and the large size fits a 20 – 23 inch torso.
Air Ventilation Capabilities
- The mesh panel provides excellent ventilaton. The air is able to get in between your back and the weight of the pack, which really feels like it is flaoting. It really does keep your back from getting sweaty and uncomfortable.
Adjustable Hip Belt
- The hip belt is adjustable with up to 5 inches in order to get the perfect fit. The hip belt is very sturdy, and well padded. The adjustment is velcro, which allows you to readjust it very easily.
- The small and medium sizes fit a 24 – 45 inch waist, and the large size fits a 29 – 55 inch waist.
Storage
The external pockets in this pack are very well thought out and make things very accessible.
Main Compartment
The main compartment at the top of the bag has two layers, and a flap to store a water bladder. There are also compression straps to better secure and stabilize the load.
There is access at the bottom for the sleeping bag compartment, and the flap in between can be removed to make the main compartment larger.
Removable Floating Top Lid
There are two pockets in the lid, and it can be used to cover the top when it’s filled to rise above the top. The lid can also be removed.
Dual Zippered Front Panel Pockets
There are two large front panel pockets which helps to keep your gear better organized.
Hip Belt Pocket
The storage on the hip belt has two little pockets. The material does not stretch and there’s not a lot of room in these pockets. They are still handy for little things you want access to without having to go in to the back of the pack.
The hip belt pockets are a bit difficult to open and close with one hand, and the zipper tends to snag.
Mesh Water Bottle Side Pockets
There are angled water bottle pockets on each side, and they securely fit 32oz water bottles.
Compression Straps
There are compression straps both on the outside and inside at the top of the bag. Using the straps to tighten the bag helps stabilize heavier loads. The straps on the outside can also be used to hang extra gear.
Removable Sleeping Pad Straps
The sleeping pad straps can be used to attach a sleeping pad or other gear to the outside of the pack. They can also be fully removed if you don’t need them, to save weight.
Trekking Pole Attachment
This pack has trekking pole attachments on the shoulder straps and bottom of the bag. You can easily attach your trekking poles without having to stop and take off the bag.
Durability
Material
- The pack material is made of a lightweight 420HD nylon.
- The AG suspension system is lined with 100 denier x 630 denier nylon mesh.
Rain Protection
- A rain cover is not included, but the Osprey Ultralight Rain Cover fits the AG perfectly and is sold separately.
Fasteners and Zippers
- The buckles are high quality and very durable.
- The zippers on the external pockets are good but the hip belt zippers tend to snag.
